Furahalha Nakaiy Iruvai Monsoon Weather

Furahalha is the 2nd nakaiy of the Iruvai monsoon. Strong north-easterly winds, with scattered rain and thunderstorms.

Fishing is good during this period.

WEATHER

Scattered rain and thunderstorms in central and southern atolls. Showers likely to be heavy in southern atolls. Generally fine in the north atolls. It’s the first of the two “Halha” in the Iruvai season. Halha brings strong winds, accompanied by rain and thunderstorms. Its generally thought among fisherman that Halha is due to the settling of Hulhangu (westerly) to Iruvai (easterly) winds. 13 days of showers are expected during the month of December, with average temperature being at 25 degrees Celsius. Expect to get around 7 hours of sunshine on average every day. Not bad for a full day fishing trip. For this month fishing arsenal, be sure to pack a rain coat – just for good measure.

WIND

Furahalha marks the start of Halha, with Noonu and Laamu atoll experiencing winds from north-easterly at 10 to 18 mph and 4 to 12 mph elsewhere. In furahalha winds are expected to be at an average speed of 10 mph. Seas are expected to be moderate getting rough during showers.

FISHING

Fishing is good during this period. Fishing is best from 3rd till 5th of January. 3 days in this nakaiy are major days for fishing given the weather conditions.

Night fishing is expected to be excellent the 4th and 5th January weekend.

TOP CATCH

Tuna and Wahoo are usual catch these days. GT’s are found near shore during slight swells.
