Assidha is the 1stnakaiy of the Hulhangu monsoon. Begins with a storm then becomes hot and dry. Windy during storm.
Fishing is generally fair during this period.
WEATHER
Scattered rain with isolated thunderstorms over the country with a few heavy showered in southern and some parts of central atolls. 10 days of showers are expected during the month of April, with average temperature being at 27 degrees Celsius. Expect to get around 9 hours of sunshine on average every day. Not bad for a full day fishing trip. For this month fishing arsenal, be sure to pack lots of sun screen and a good hat – just for good measure.
WIND
Assidha is the first nakaiy of Hulhangu monsoon. Winds are expected to be moderate in southern and central atolls and becoming slight over the rest. Wind blows from the east at 5 to 14 mph. Waves are expected to be low at just 1 – 4 feet. Boat ride is expected to be smooth unless during showers. Strong winds during showers only.
FISHING
Fishing is generally believed to be fair during this period due to high winds brought up from the rainy clouds. Fishing peaks from 10thtill 20th. 9 days in this nakaiy are major days for fishing.
Jigging for Tuna in the southern region proves to be excellent. Popping/casting near shore or reef is expected to pull large GT’s during this period.
14thto 17thare excellent for night fishing since being a new moon (kalhu foey handhuvaru). Weekend anglers better use 14th, 19thand 20thto hunt for Red Snapper.
TOP CATCH
Wahoo (Kurumas) and GT (Munda Handhi) are frequent catches during this nakaiy.
